The views are always spectacular from my friends’ James Bay condo and this evening’s fireworks were as fabulous as the the sunsets and sunrises. Such a wonderful day spent cycling, swimming and walking along the seashore.

Sharing a housesit with longtime friends
It’s always a pleasure spending time together with longtime friends in beautiful new locations. Many of my homeowners have encouraged me to invite family and friends to visit and stay with me while Im caring for their pets and home.

Recently my longtime friends Dick and Micki joined me on Saltspring Island. Dick is an accomplished musician who plays in 4 different bands in Victoria. Jimmy was lulled to sleep while Dick played a waltz.
Spontaneity
Todai-ji Temple in Nara houses the Daibutsu Buddha. His right hand is expressing the mudra to repel fear.
I’m dealing with fear of loss of freedom and mobility since my ski injury last year. I’ve been physically active all my life, with no serious injuries or illnesses. Last year I broke my fibula and stretched my ACL. I was walking within 5 weeks of the accident and had excellent results from working with a physiotherapist and an acupuncturist.
But it was 6 months before I felt like myself again.
Ive hiked and cycled and walked and practiced yoga and qi gong. I feel strong and flexible.
I decided not to ski this season.
When in Nara recently I visited the Todai-ji and saw kids sliding through a hole in one of the pillars.
Then an adult crouched down and slid through the pillar.
And so did I.
A spontaneous moment.
And I replay the sensation. And try to retain the delight of sliding through.
I hope to return to backcountry skiing.
Meanwhile I shall seize every spontaneous moment that presents itself.

I love Japanese food! Housesitting in Japan gives me the opportunity to meet homeowners and their friends and fellow pet owners and to discuss seasonal treats and to share favourite restaurants and dishes.
One of my favourite dogs
Foxxy is a shiba inu and one of my
favourite dogs. She is self-possessed, smart, alert, playful, and she knows all the cat feeding stations in her neighbourhood in addition to the best dogfriendly cafes. She’s an ideal roommate: very low drama, calm and clean and amusing.
